2 SAMUEL 9

AIMS:

  1. To teach that it is not yet over, there is no need to give up even if the situation is not encouraging.
  2. To remind us that God of wonders is still at work, He is capable of visiting us with His oversized miracles to announce His glory even when we less hope for it.

INTRODUCTION:

Life is in phases as men are in sizes, a season might come that everything would just freeze and things stop working, another season might suddenly overtake the former with lots of goodies to the extent one would easily forget the ugly experience of the past. The clear picture of this is the promise of God towards the people of God through Prophet Isaiah in Chapter 43:18-19. The book of remembrance was practically opened on the case of Mordecai in the book of Esther Chapter 6, but what happened to Mephibosheth can only be the finger of God in action.

Ordinarily, David ought to have sought for everyone who is heirs to the throne that might stand to oppose him as king and kill them, of course, Mephibosheth is one of them. Instead of going that route, David turned out to be his benefactor, the king sent for him and made him sit with him, ate with him on the same table and stayed with him in the palace even with his predicament (Mephiboshet was a lame man). When God wants to decorate and beautify an individual, disability can not withhold Him, it is human beings that see faults in other people’s lives but God sees from different perspective. Let me remind you again that in all you have been through, your own king will come for you because the Lord will by Himself open your book of remembrance.

DISCUSSION:

  1. Is there any situation that should warrant our giving up?
  2. What should be our actions whenever the situation(s) around us are totally discouraging?
  3. Have you ever experienced the supernatural intervention of God in discouraging moment of your life? Share your experience to encourage others.
  4. Do you know that you are like a king compared to the situation of some other people in our society today? How many Mephibosheth have you brought out of their desert to at least have a taste of good living for once?

FOOD FOR THOUGHT:

There are many Mephibosheth who has no hope of a king sending for them, the Lord has made you a king in your own little place, deliberately go for one henceforth.

MEMORY VERSE: Psalm 136:23.
