THE CATHEDRAL PRIESTS

The first known African Priest in this Church’s history was the Rev. Canon Yinka Olumide whose Priesthood training in England no doubt rubbed off on the mode of worship. He joined the Church in 1965, albeit on a part-time basis. When there was no Priest around, the responsibility of conducting Sunday Services fell on the Lay Readers and Choir Masters like Messrs A.A Bassey (now The Rev.), J.I Igun, Dotun Oyewole, Josiah Rotibi, to mention but a few.

From a lone Priest in the 60s who was not even regular, the Church as a Cathedral now has a total of 11Priests, headed by the Dean. And of course, being the Diocesan headquarters and hence the seat of the Bishop, the Bishop of the Lagos West Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Dr. James Olusola Odedeji is at the apex.

Over the past years, so many Priests have passed through AVMCC in different categories. Many of them have earned promotions along the line of duty. But space will not permit us to list all the Priests who have passed through the Church’s portals as they would be numbered in hundreds. For the purpose of this publication, however, we are constrained to list the current serving Priests only; They are:-
