TEXT: DEUTERONOMY 7:8.
INTRODUCTION: Man is not alien to bondage. In the garden when Adam and Eve disobeyed God through the deceit of the serpent, they voluntary relinquished their authority over creatures and entered into bondage. Gen. 1:28 says, ‘And God blessed them and God said unto them, “Be fruitful and multiply; and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea. And over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. “ ‘ Man was in charge until satan introduced sin to man. Sin is an instrument by which satan keeps Man in bondage. Gal. 1:4 records, “who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father”.
CONTEXT: The act of redemption was rehearsed through the history of the people of Israel. Jacob and his entire family left Canaan as a result of famine, having discovered that God has placed his missing son well in Egypt. Through Joseph’s invitation, they all moved to Egypt. But as time went by, Exodus 1:8-11 says, “Now there arose up a new King over Egypt, which knew not Joseph. And he said unto his people, behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we: come in, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there faileth out any war they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up part of the land. Therefore they did set over them task masters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Roamses.”
The place of food and shelter became a place of bondage until they cried to God for redemption (Ex. 2:23-25). God heard their cry and sent a deliverer in the person of Moses to speak to Pharaoh to let His people go.
Deut. 7:8 says, “But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the Pharaoh, king of Egypt.”
Out of love for the people of Israel and His oath, God delivered them out of the house of bondage.
CONCLUSION: Are you being afflicted with sickness, barrenness, joblessness and poverty? All these are satanic agenda, to keep people in perpetual bondage and afflict them with sorrows. John 10:10 says, “The thief cometh not, but for to steal and to kill and to destroy…” According to Luke 4:18. “The spirit of the Lord is upon me because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.”
Christ’s mission is to redeem those being afflicted by the devil and his agents. 1 John 3:8 records, “He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.” Every work of the devil is destroyed in your life today in the name of Jesus.
It doesn’t matter what kind of captivity you are experiencing and for how long, if you can cry to Jesus for help, He will step in and set you free because He has paid for your redemption.
