TOPIC: BEARING WITNESS TO THE LIGHT

TEXT: Acts 1:8, John 1:1-14

AIM:

  1. To teach that we should bear witness of the Light, that all men through Him might believe.
  2. To teach that we are not alone in bearing witness of the Light.

INTRODUCTION:

The words in Acts 1:8 were spoken by the risen Jesus to His disciples just before His ascension into heaven: “You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. “Bearing witness to the Light, as described in Acts 1:8, means proclaiming and demonstrating the truth of Jesus Christ, who is the Light of the world (John 8:12). It is testifying about His life, death, resurrection, and saving power to others, both through words and actions. The verse emphasizes that believers are empowered by the Holy Spirit to be witnesses for Christ in all areas of life; starting locally (“Jerusalem”), expanding outward (“Judea and Samaria”), and eventually reaching the entire world (“to the ends of the earth”). This mission highlights the responsibility of Christians to reflect Jesus’ light in a dark world by living out their faith, sharing the Gospel, and pointing others to salvation in Him.

QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION:

  1. What does it mean to bear witness of the Light (John 1:7; Matthew 5:14-16)?
  2. What is the act of bearing witness (Acts 4:20; Isaiah 43:10)?
  3. What does “bear witness” mean spiritually (Romans 8:16; 1 John 5:9-11)?
  4. What does “I will bear the Light” imply about our mission (Matthew 28:19-20; Philippians 2:15)?
  5. How can we actively bear witness of the Light in our daily lives (Matthew 10:32; 1 Peter 3:15)?

FOOD FOR THOUGHT:

You are not running this race alone. God Himself empowers and equips you to bear witness to His light.

MEMORY VERSE:

John 1:7: “This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe.”
