Youths have been urged to embrace purposeful living and maintain unwavering commitment to God, with a warning against abandoning divine purpose, which could lead to moral failure and spiritual displacement.
The charge was given by the Reverend Adeola Odusanya while delivering a sermon at the 2026 Royal Gems/Vessels, Boys and Girls Guild Rededication Service of the Anglican Diocese of Lagos West.
Speaking from Exodus 32:26, where Moses asked the Israelites, “Who is on the Lord’s side?”, Rev. Odusanya stressed that remaining on God’s side is crucial for navigating today’s moral and spiritual challenges.
He explained that purpose begins the moment God speaks into a person’s life, citing the biblical account where God directed Aaron to meet Moses. According to him, the theme of the rededication service, “Purposeful Life,” is divinely inspired and timely.

Rev. Odusanya noted that Aaron’s original assignment included supporting Moses, serving as God’s spokesman, leading the people in worship, and representing God before Israel. However, he observed that Aaron’s failure to remain faithful to his divine calling eventually led to the events of Exodus 32, where he yielded to public pressure and participated in the making of the golden calf, resulting in idolatry.
The cleric warned that losing sight of God-given purpose often leads to compromise and sinful living. “People who lose sight of God’s purpose are easily influenced by ungodly counsel,” he stated. He further emphasized that many societal vices thrive because individuals have drifted away from their divine assignments.
Quoting from Psalm 1, Rev. Odusanya outlined practical steps for purposeful living, urging believers not to walk in the counsel of the ungodly.

The event also featured a rededication prayer session and a lecture on “Purposeful Life,” delivered by the Reverend Oluwafemi Agbeja-Folorunke.

About 500 people, including youths, teenagers, coordinators, the President of the Women’s Organisation, Dr. Oluwakemi Lydia Odedeji, and wives of diocesan administrators, graced the occasion
