TOPIC: BE A BEACON OF LIGHT

TEXT: Matthew 5:14-16

AIM:

1. To teach that believers are called to shine God’s light in a dark world.
2. To teach that our actions and words should reflect Christ and draw others to Him.

INTRODUCTION:

A beacon of light is a guiding or warning signal, often visible from a distance. In the spiritual context, it symbolizes being a source of hope, direction, and encouragement to others. Jesus Christ calls us, His followers, to be lights in this world. Just as a lighthouse guide ships to safety, our lives should point others to Christ and His truth.

Can you hide a city that is sitting on top of a mountain? Its light at night can be seen from miles. If we live for Christ, we will glow like lights, showing others what Christ is like. We hide our light by:

1. Being quiet when we should speak.
2. Going along with the crowd.
3. Denying the light.
4. Letting sin dim our light.
5. Not explaining our light to others.
6. Ignoring the needs of others.

Be a beacon of truth, don’t shut your light off from the rest of the world. This study will explore how we can live as beacons of light in our daily lives, spreading God’s love and truth.

QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION:

1. What does it mean to be the “light of the world”? (Matthew 5:14)
2. How can a believer shine their light in practical ways (Matt. 5:16, James 2:14-19, Mk. 16:15)?
3. Why is it important to let our good works glorify God (Matt. 5:16)?
4. What are the consequences of hiding your light from others?
5. Share examples of people who have been beacons of light in your life.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT:

A light that shines brightly can dispel even the deepest darkness. Be that light!
