BEARING WITNESS TO THE LIGHT
January 23, 2025

DATE: 16THMARCH 2025

TOPIC: WALKING IN GOD’S LIGHT

TEXT: 1 JOHN 1:7

AIM:

  1. To teach that children of God must obediently walk in the light.
  2. To teach that God is faithful and reliable. If we confess our sins, he forgives them and cleanses us from everything we’ve done wrong.

INTRODUCTION:

In conducting ourselves after the truth which was revealed to all men through Jesus and the Apostles, our lives are brought into conformity with God. Fellowship is established between God and man. Those who are seeking to walk in the light cannot be ignorant of the Word of God. They must be students of the Word of God. The condition for remaining in the light is to continue our obedience of the truth. This is the condition for receiving the blessing of the continual cleansing of one’s sins through the atoning blood of Jesus shed on the cross.

Questions for Discussion:

  • Who is the light? 1 John 1:5.
  • What is the meaning of “walk in the light”? 1 John 7.
  • How do you interpret the phrase “walk in the light” in your everyday life? Can you give specific examples? Jn 14:15, Jn 15;14.
  • What does “fellowship” mean in the context of 1 John 1:3? How can we have fellowship with God and with each other?John 8:12, Eph 5:8

Conclusion:

The necessity of walking in the commandments of God is stressed by John. We are blessed with assurance within when we know we are walking according to the will of God who is greater than our own will. We feel confident as we serve God, as we know His word and thus know we are walking according to His word.

Food for thought: Are you confident that you are walking in the light?

Memory verse: 1 John 1:7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
