TEXT: Philippians 4:4-7

DATE: 17TH MARCH, 2024

AIMS:

  1. To show us the need to always keep a positive attitude.
  2. To teach us how we can keep a positive attitude in such a challenging time as this.

INTRODUCTION

Attitude deals with our disposition or our state of mind. It can also be seen as the way we carry ourselves regardless of our situation. Our attitude determines a lot about our lives; a person’s attitude can either limit the person or elevate him. That is why it is always important to always keep a positive attitude. A positive attitude is a state of mind that envisions and expects favorable results; it is a disposition that sees the bright side of life. Paul was a man who faced a lot of challenges in life, yet he was able to triumph as he confronted them with a positive attitude. This was why he admonished the Christians at Philippi to desist from dwelling on negativity but to keep a positive attitude even in the face of tribulations and trials (Philippians 4:4-7).

QUESTION FOR DISCUSSION

  1. In your own understanding, how can you explain the word Attitude.
  2. According to Philippians 4:4-7, what are the practical ways Paul itemized for the Believers in keeping a positive attitude? Compare with Matthew 6:25-34
  3. How can we as Christians keep a positive attitude in the face of the challenges of this time? (Joshua 1:8, Romans 12:2-3, Hebrews 12:1-2)
  4. Are there dangers of keeping a negative attitude? If yes, mention them.
  5. What are the rewards of keeping a positive attitude as Christians? (Philippians 4:7, Matthew 6:33)

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Your attitude determines your altitude; if your attitude is always positive, it will become difficult to drain out your strength or zeal in any area of life.

MEMORY VERSE: Philippians 4:6 “Be careful for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known unto God”.
